Theatre Planning is not a licensed profession.

Peter, who joined FDA in 1994, is both a designer and project manager with an impressive range of completed projects including experimental theaters, cruise ships and more conventional performing arts centers. Most notable is his work on special projects that require flexibility in thinking and a broad range of knowledge to meet unexpected challenges.

Recently completed projects of his include The Shed in NYC’s Hudson Yards, the 100-seat multi-purpose, exceptionally flexible MoMA Studio Gallery, the renovation of Canada’s National Arts Centre in Ottawa, the Oprah Winfrey Theatre at the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC; the Screen Actors Guild Foundation’s Robin Williams Center for Media And Entertainment in New York City; the Greenhill School’s Marshall Family Performing Arts Center in Addison, TX; Rice University’s Moody Center for the Arts in Houston, TX; Berkeley Film Society—Pacific Film Archive in California; and Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul, Korea, among others.

Earlier projects include, among many others, the renovation of both Alice Tully Hall and The Juilliard School at Lincoln Center, the Lincoln Center Film Society’s Elinor Bunin Film Center, the Park Avenue Armory, and the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. At EMPAC, Peter was involved in project managing a space that prides itself on being a first of its kind, with cutting edge design concepts focused on infrastructure in order to free artists, scientists and technicians from constraints; using technology to allow new possibilities in performance.

His current work includes project management for a new home for the Irish Arts Center in Hell’s Kitchen; NYU’s Coles Center; a new campus for the Juilliard School in Tianjin, China; and NYU’s 181 Mercer Street project, a $1B building that includes three significant new theatres for Tisch and Steinhardt Schools.

Peter has served as a guest architectural lecturer at Harvard University Graduate School of Design and as a guest critic at Columbia University and at the University of Wisconsin Schools of Architecture. He has also been a featured speaker at the International Theatre Engineering and Architecture Conference in London and the North American Theatre Engineering and Architecture Conference in New York.

Peter received his B.A. magna cum laude at Harvard in Visual and Environmental Studies (architectural design) and his M.A in Architecture from Columbia University. He is an Associate of the AIA (American Institute of Architects), a member of USITT (United States Institute for Theatre Technology) and is a former President of the American Society of Theatre Consultants (ASTC) and currently serves on the Board of Directors.
