Stephen A. Schwarzman Center

In May 2015, Yale College alumnus Stephen A. Schwarzman gave $150M to create a state-of-the-art campus center by renovating the historic University Commons and Memorial Hall. For the first time, Yale has a building dedicated to student life — the Schwarzman Center transforms the historic Commons and three floors of the adjacent Memorial Hall, both built for the university’s 1901 bicentennial. The restoration of the facility creates an unsurpassed center serving all students and hosts exceptional programming.
The historic Commons has been retained for major university events including reunions and as a student luncheon venue, but is renovated to host many other kinds of events throughout the year. Innovative technology allows virtual engagement with the outside world in a dynamic way, and the Center includes student meeting spaces and creative dining options, in addition to flexible spaces for special events.
The Center does not include Woolsey Hall, although the intention is to coordinate programming.
